The Physical and Behavioral Adaptations of an Arctic Owl
To begin in Image 7 the different parts of the snowy owl are demonstrated and you can see many of its adaptations. The arctic owl's color is useful to it for multiple reasons. Primarily it's for the purpose of camouflage, for males they grow to be pure white this helps with blending in with patches of snow. In Image 8 you can see that the male arctic owl blends in very well. Females have brown spots and they blend in more with forests and trees covered in snow. Another adaptation is its thick layers of feathers greatly help with maintaining a warm body. The fur even covers their feet. The arctic owl's eyes are helped by having sharp hearing, their hearing works together with their eyes for catching prey when it is more difficult to see. Being active both day and night is another adaptation arctic owls have taken so instead of only hunting during the day the catch prey during nighttime as well. The more they are able to catch the more reproduction there will be. Their large claws seen in Image 9 allows them to catch large prey and do it quickly.
